1. Check Structural Stability

Walk the full boundary and look for leaning panels, loose supports, damaged bases, missing fixings, or sections affected by nearby work. Any unstable section should be isolated and corrected promptly.

2. Review Gates and Access Points

Check that gates open and close correctly, locks and hinges are working, access is controlled, and the gate does not create an obstruction when open. Vehicle and pedestrian access points should remain clearly separated where required by the site arrangement.

3. Inspect Public-Facing Edges

Where fencing borders a footpath, road, parking area, or public space, confirm that there are no sharp edges, projecting components, loose sheets, or gaps that create unnecessary risk.

4. Check Visibility Near Roads and Accesses

Fencing should not create an unexpected visibility problem at site entrances, road junctions, pedestrian crossings, or vehicle exit points. Any conflict should be reviewed with the site layout and traffic-management arrangement.

5. Review Signage and Identification

Make sure required warning, access, project, or emergency information remains visible and securely attached. Replace damaged or unreadable signs rather than adding more overlapping material.

6. Check for Ground Movement or Excavation Effects

Excavation, backfilling, trenching, or drainage work near the boundary can affect fence stability. Reinspect supports after nearby ground conditions change.

7. Document Defects and Repairs

Keep a simple inspection record with photographs, date, defect location, responsible person, and repair status. This is particularly useful on long-duration construction projects.
