Confirm the Work Activity

The operator should understand what the crew will be doing, whether the activity is stationary or moving, and how long the TMA is expected to remain in position.

Review the Approved Layout

Before deployment, review the relevant traffic-management drawing or approved site arrangement. Confirm:

• Intended TMA position
• Work-zone limits
• Lane or shoulder affected
• Entry and exit route
• Nearby barriers or crash cushions
• Advance warning equipment

Agree Communication Methods

The operator and site supervisor should know how they will communicate during the work. Confirm radio channels, phone contacts or agreed hand signals where appropriate.

Identify Site Changes

Conditions may differ from the original plan. Discuss any recent change in access, traffic flow, work limits, equipment position or construction sequence before the TMA moves into the live area.

Confirm Operator Responsibilities

The operator should know when to move, when to hold position, who gives instructions, and what to do if conditions become unsuitable or communication is lost.

Check the Route to and From the Work Zone

A safe deployment also includes the approach and exit route. Confirm where the TMA will join the work convoy, where it will leave the road, and where it can wait without creating unnecessary conflict.

Record the Briefing

For longer projects or repeated shifts, a short briefing record can help document the date, operator, supervisor, work area and key changes discussed.
