TMA Standby and Safe Parking Checklist Dubai

A Truck Mounted Attenuator may spend part of a shift waiting for deployment, repositioning or standing by between work activities. The standby location should be selected carefully so the TMA remains ready without creating a new traffic or work-zone hazard.

1. Choose a Stable Standby Location

Use a location that allows the vehicle to remain stable and visible without obstructing live traffic, pedestrian movement, site access or emergency routes.

2. Maintain Adequate Visibility

Approaching road users and the work-zone team should be able to identify the TMA and understand whether it is active, parked or preparing to move. Avoid blind corners and locations where other equipment blocks visibility.

3. Keep Escape and Manoeuvring Space

The driver should have enough space to move the vehicle safely when deployment is required. Avoid parking positions that trap the TMA behind other vehicles, materials or temporary barriers.

4. Check Warning Systems

Before leaving standby, confirm that warning beacons, lights, arrow or message equipment and other required systems are operating as intended for the planned work activity.

5. Maintain Communication

The operator should know who gives the instruction to deploy, reposition or return to standby. Radio or phone communication should be clear before the TMA enters the live work zone.

6. Prevent Unauthorised Use

When the vehicle is unattended, follow the project’s vehicle-control arrangements. Keys, access and equipment controls should be managed so the TMA is not moved without coordination.

7. Recheck Before Deployment

A standby period can last minutes or hours. Before re-entering the work zone, repeat a short check of vehicle condition, attenuator condition, warning systems and the latest site arrangement.
