Construction Hoarding Pedestrian Access Dubai

Construction hoarding beside public spaces must do more than hide the work area. It should also support safe pedestrian movement, keep access routes clear and reduce conflicts between the public, site vehicles and construction activities.

Maintain a Continuous Pedestrian Route

Where pedestrians normally use a footpath or access route, the project should provide a clear alternative if the existing path is affected. Avoid routes that force pedestrians into vehicle areas or live traffic.

Keep Gates Away From Blind Conflicts

Site gates should be positioned so vehicles can enter and exit without creating unnecessary conflict with pedestrians. Review visibility from both the driver and pedestrian perspective.

Coordinate Hoarding With Sightlines

Solid hoarding can reduce visibility near junctions, driveways and crossings. Check corners, vehicle exits and areas where pedestrians need to see approaching traffic.

Use Clear Directional Signage

If the pedestrian route changes, signs should direct users before they reach the obstruction. Keep messaging consistent from the start of the temporary route to the point where normal access resumes.

See HMJ’s Construction Site Fencing Dubai and Construction Hoarding Requirements Dubai guides.

Protect Temporary Walkways

Where the route passes close to work activities or vehicle movement, additional barriers, fencing or separation may be needed. The level of protection should match the actual site risk.

Check Accessibility

Temporary pedestrian routes should consider width, surface condition, level changes and access for people with reduced mobility where applicable.

Inspect the Route During the Project

Hoarding lines, gates and temporary walkways can change as construction progresses. Inspect them regularly and update the route if the site layout changes.
