What Qualifies as Overweight or Overdimension?

Overweight Vehicles

Any vehicle or vehicle-and-load combination that exceeds the maximum gross vehicle weight permitted on public roads in Dubai. This includes loaded low-loaders carrying heavy plant, multi-axle trailers carrying industrial equipment, and any transport where the total weight exceeds the road’s structural design capacity.

Overdimension Vehicles

Any vehicle or load that exceeds standard maximum dimensions for width, height, or length. Common examples include wide loads such as prefabricated building modules, tall loads exceeding bridge clearance heights, and long loads such as structural steel beams, wind turbine blades, or large industrial vessels.

RTA Requirements for Abnormal Load Transport

• Detailed vehicle and load specification — dimensions, weight, axle configuration
• Proposed route assessed for bridge clearances, road widths, turning radii, and weight restrictions
• Proposed travel date and time — typically restricted to night hours on low-traffic periods
