Traffic Diversion Opening & Closing Procedure Dubai
A traffic diversion should be opened and closed in a controlled sequence. The site team needs to confirm that signs, barriers, access routes, work-zone protection and communication are ready before changing live traffic conditions.
HMJ Contracting provides traffic diversion planning, signage and implementation support in Dubai. Call +971 50 778 9046.
Before Opening the Diversion
Confirm the latest approved drawing, route condition, equipment positions, pedestrian access, emergency access and communication arrangements.
1. Complete a Route Check
Verify that the diversion route is open, clear and capable of receiving the redirected traffic. Check junctions, access points and any temporary restrictions.
2. Confirm Sign Sequence
Make sure advance warning, lane guidance and diversion direction signs are in place in the correct sequence before traffic is redirected.
3. Check Barriers and Impact Protection
Inspect barriers, cones, crash cushions and TMA positions where included in the approved arrangement.
4. Open the Diversion in a Controlled Sequence
Change the traffic arrangement according to the site plan and project procedure. Avoid partial setups that send drivers into an incomplete route.
5. Monitor the Live Diversion
Once traffic is flowing, check driver behaviour, congestion, visibility, access and any unexpected conflict points.
Closing the Diversion
The reverse process should also be controlled. Restore normal traffic only after the work area is safe, temporary equipment can be removed, and the normal route is ready.
6. Remove Temporary Devices Safely
Remove signs and traffic-control devices in an order that avoids confusing road users during the transition back to normal conditions.
7. Record the Final Condition
Keep site photographs, defect notes and completion records for the project file.
