Crash Cushion Transport & Storage Guide Dubai
Crash cushions are safety-critical systems. Damage during transport, lifting or temporary storage can affect installation quality and may require additional inspection before the system is deployed near live traffic.
HMJ Contracting supplies and coordinates crash cushion systems for Dubai road works. Call +971 50 778 9046.
1. Confirm the System Before Mobilisation
Before loading, confirm the crash cushion model, configuration and project destination. Keep the equipment identification and relevant project records with the delivery documentation.
2. Use Suitable Lifting and Handling Methods
Follow the manufacturer’s lifting points and handling instructions. Avoid uncontrolled lifting, dragging or contact that can deform energy-absorbing components, mounting frames or connection points.
3. Secure the Unit During Transport
The system should be restrained so it cannot shift during braking, turning or road vibration. Check straps, supports and contact points to ensure the securing method does not itself damage the equipment.
4. Protect Components From Site Conditions
Temporary storage areas should be stable and away from moving plant where possible. Consider:
- Ground condition
- Water accumulation
- Dust and debris
- Vehicle movement
- Unauthorised access
- Exposure of loose components
5. Keep Components Together
If the system includes separate brackets, fasteners, cartridges or accessories, keep them identified and stored with the correct unit. Missing components can delay installation and create confusion on site.
6. Inspect After Delivery
Before installation, check for:
- Visible deformation
- Damaged mounting points
- Missing hardware
- Loose components
- Impact marks
- Corrosion or contamination where relevant
Any concern should be reviewed before the system is installed.
7. Maintain a Delivery Record
Photographs at dispatch and delivery can help establish condition and simplify later quality checks. Record the date, project, unit identification and receiving person.
8. Recheck Before Installation
Storage conditions can change. A unit that was acceptable at delivery should be checked again immediately before installation, especially after a long storage period or movement within the site.
