Site access is a practical part of many Right of Way projects. The access shown in drawings should match how workers, equipment, deliveries and the public will actually move around the site.

Confirm the Approved Work Limits

Before planning access, identify the exact work limits and the area covered by the permit application. Access routes should not unintentionally extend the work zone beyond the area shown in the submission.

Coordinate Vehicle Entry and Exit

Review how construction vehicles will enter and leave the site. Consider:

• Gate or access location
• Vehicle turning requirements
• Visibility at the access point
• Interaction with live traffic
• Delivery waiting areas
• Temporary traffic-control measures

The arrangement used on site should remain consistent with the approved drawings and project controls.

Protect Pedestrian Movement

If the project affects a pavement, verge or public route, check how pedestrians will pass the work area. Temporary pedestrian routes should be clear and should not conflict with vehicle access or material handling areas.

Align Drawings and Method Statements

The access arrangement shown on the drawing should agree with the method statement and construction sequence. If the drawing shows one access point but the method statement describes another, the package should be corrected before submission.

Review Changes Before Mobilisation

Site conditions can change between application and mobilisation. If access conditions have changed materially, the project team should review whether the approved documents still represent the intended setup.

Before works begin, brief supervisors and relevant operators on:

• Approved work limits
• Entry and exit points
• Pedestrian routes
• Delivery procedures
• Temporary traffic controls
• Emergency access
