Traffic Diversion for AC Unit Installation/Replacement should cover the materials left after a unit is unpacked. Pallets, crates and protective packaging can occupy the receiving area even after the main lift is complete. Agree their handling and collection before the vehicle and lifting sequence is finalised.
Confirm where unpacking happens
Ask the equipment supplier and installation specialist whether the unit is delivered ready for lifting or requires preparation at the site. Identify the proposed unpacking position and the area needed for removed materials. The equipment specialist should determine handling requirements; the traffic team should use those inputs to assess the public-space interface.
Keep transport dimensions and the installation-ready arrangement clearly distinguished in the project brief. Do not assume that removing packaging makes an unreviewed delivery arrangement acceptable.
Allocate collection responsibility
Agree whether packaging leaves on the original delivery vehicle or requires a separate collection. Record the responsible company, expected collection stage and permitted receiving location. If collection is separate, include its vehicle movements in the access review.
- Who receives and manages the removed packaging?
- Where will materials remain before collection?
- Does the proposed area affect a footpath, parking space or lane?
- Who responds if the collection vehicle is delayed?
Keep the occupation period realistic
An RTA Road closure proposal should not assume the public area is clear immediately after the AC unit is installed. Include the actual activities needed to remove equipment and associated materials. Any change to the authorised space or work period must be reviewed through the applicable process.
For example, if the delivery vehicle must depart before packaging can be loaded, record the later collection as an unresolved logistics requirement. Do not leave it for the lifting crew to solve informally at the roadside.
Prepare the handback record
Confirm who checks the affected area and records outstanding materials before traffic-control removal or reopening under the approved arrangement. This coordination step complements the specialist’s work procedures; it does not replace them.
Read the AC installation permit guide and the old unit collection guide. HMJ can review the traffic-planning scope using your delivery and collection information.
