A delivery vehicle can fit through a site gate but still need more space to turn into it. The swept path describes the area occupied during the manoeuvre, including parts of the vehicle that swing beyond its wheels. For loading and unloading near a Dubai road, this can be a critical input to traffic diversion planning.

Read the main Traffic Diversion for Loading, Unloading & Concrete Casting Works Dubai guide for the wider service scope.

Use the vehicle that will actually arrive

Ask for vehicle dimensions and configuration from the supplier. A rigid truck and an articulated trailer can create different entry patterns. Record whether the vehicle arrives loaded and where it must stop to unload. Avoid approving access from a generic vehicle icon on a drawing.

Review the approach and departure

Check the turn from the public road, gate crossing, internal receiving area and exit. Include fixed objects, kerbs, pedestrian routes and neighbouring entrances. A gate-width measurement alone cannot establish whether the complete manoeuvre works. A competent designer should assess the geometry using appropriate project inputs.

Resolve conflicts in the design stage

If the proposed movement crosses a protected pedestrian route or needs additional road space, review the layout and sequence. Options may include a different suitable vehicle or a revised delivery arrangement, subject to technical and authority acceptance. Do not assume a marshal can compensate for physically inadequate turning space.

Connect the result to permit coordination

For an RTA permit or ROWPS submission associated with loading and unloading, provide the relevant vehicle movement information where it affects the proposed road arrangement. If the reviewed path differs from an approved work boundary, confirm the necessary change process before mobilisation.

Verify the delivered vehicle

Gate staff should know which vehicle configuration the assessment covers. If a different trailer arrives, hold the movement through the agreed procedure and seek review. Document the difference instead of guiding an unassessed vehicle through a tight turn. This guide supports planning; it is not a substitute for a site-specific swept-path assessment.

Permit coordination and project support

Use the official RTA Right-of-Way utilisation service to check the applicable service requirements. The required approval depends on the actual site and proposed work. RTA and ROWPS references here apply to Dubai; other UAE emirates have their own responsible authorities.
