Crash Cushion Post-Impact Response Dubai
After a crash cushion is struck, the priority is to make the work zone safe, assess the system correctly and avoid returning damaged equipment to service before it has been reviewed.
HMJ Contracting supplies and coordinates crash cushion systems for Dubai road works. Call +971 50 778 9046.
1. Secure the Area
Control traffic around the impacted location and prevent secondary collisions. Use temporary protection where necessary until the damaged system can be inspected or replaced.
2. Do Not Assume the System Is Reusable
External damage may not show the full condition of the energy-absorbing components. The system should be assessed against the manufacturer’s inspection and replacement guidance.
3. Record the Impact
Take photographs of the crash cushion, anchoring area, connected barriers, debris and surrounding road layout. Record the date, location and any visible displacement.
4. Inspect Adjacent Components
An impact can affect more than the cushion itself. Check barrier terminals, anchoring points, transitions, supports and the protected hazard.
See HMJ’s Crash Cushion Inspection Checklist and Crash Cushion Dubai service.
5. Arrange Temporary Protection
If the system cannot remain in service, provide suitable temporary protection until a replacement or repair is completed. The temporary arrangement should fit the approved traffic-management setup.
6. Confirm Replacement Requirements
Some systems have replaceable cartridges or components; others require larger sections to be replaced. Confirm the correct specification before ordering or installing parts.
7. Recheck Alignment After Replacement
Once repaired or replaced, check alignment, visibility, anchoring and integration with the barrier or work-zone layout before reopening the area to normal operation.
