Crane erection work can extend across a change of traffic supervisors or site teams. The next shift must understand the current physical setup, not just the original programme. A useful handover explains the remaining road impact, current permissions and decisions that are still open.

Walk the boundary together
Where practical, outgoing and incoming supervisors should compare the actual arrangement with the applicable drawing. Identify vehicles, components and equipment that remain in the work area. Explain any restriction that is not obvious from the gate, including changed pedestrian access or a delivery waiting to be called forward.
Hand over current documents
Provide the permit reference, relevant work window and current drawing revision. Clearly distinguish approved instructions from proposed changes awaiting review. Avoid handing over a folder of mixed revisions without an index. The incoming team needs to know which document governs the current phase.
Transfer decisions, not just contacts
State who can confirm receiving-area readiness, who controls delivery dispatch and who coordinates with the authority. Record outstanding actions with an owner and a deadline. A contact list is insufficient when nobody knows whether the next trailer has permission to approach.
Account for remaining time
Review how much work and equipment recovery remain within the relevant authorised arrangement. If the programme is slipping, escalate through the agreed project process. Do not interpret a shift change as resetting the road-occupation period. The lifting team determines technical safe-state requirements when work pauses.
Close the handover with confirmation
The incoming supervisor should confirm receipt of the current instructions and unresolved items. Record the time, participants and actual site condition. This makes later decisions traceable and helps prevent premature reopening while components or lifting support remain. Use a concise record that can be checked on site rather than a generic tick-box sheet.
Permit coordination and project support
Use the official RTA Right-of-Way utilisation service to check the applicable service requirements. The required approval depends on the actual site and proposed work. RTA and ROWPS references here apply to Dubai; other UAE emirates have their own responsible authorities.
